The summer of 2011 will not be our most relaxing summer ever- we are siding our house, by ourselves! We joke that our goal is to be finished before the snow flies! We decided to start with the smallest, least visible side of the house. We took off all the old cedar shingle siding Friday evening, after my last day of school. (What a celebration of ending the school year!) I didn't take a before picture, but you can see what the old siding looks like.
Yes, Dad... I'm actually working, not just posing. And yes, Mom... I'm wearing crocs while on a ladder, it was flip flops on Saturday. Probably not the best choice of working footwear!
We had to celebrate the end of the school year somehow that evening!
Coolest idea- a Bagster from Waste Management. You buy this giant bag all folded up at Lowes, fill it, and then pay Waste Management to come haul it off! Since we didn't want to get a real dumpster until we really got going on the rest of the house, this was a perfect short term plan!
Oh, and I was tired of this bush, so we took it out! It was falling over anyway and just didn't look good where it was. Drew drove the Bronco into the back side yard and pulled it out!
We got almost all of the new siding back up on Saturday and Sunday. Drew had to leave for New York City early Sunday afternoon, so we didn't quite get finished. The siding is called "clay", it's a tan color. The roof trim is dark brown (most of it's not on yet), and we will paint the concrete base dark brown also. If you didn't notice, our rust brown/red siding didn't quite match the blue trim! I guess the house was blue before we bought it, and the owners didn't paint everything to match. Yes, the garage is still blue also!
This is going to take us FOR. EV. ER.
We will only be working evenings and weekends, but we'll just take it a day at a time.
And someday, oneday, you may see a finished house!!!

Oh, my, I am sooooo impressed! This is going to look really different and really awesome! Wish we could come over on weekends and eat Blizzards with you...and lend a hand, too. =)
